To Thailand and Back

Over our October break this school year, we were able to go to Thailand and join other WV Asia staff for a conference.  We had the quite the adventure, got to meet new people, eat new food and have some new experiences.

The overnight train from Bangkok to Chiang Mai

So we decided to be adventurous and we took the overnight train.  It was good, I was not sure if the kids were going to sleep but after a long day of traveling it was not hard to convince them to sleep.   I (jason) was not sure that I was going to sleep but the rocking of the cars and a blindfold did me in.  Next morning we woke up to beautiful countryside and a fun video call from my sister.  Who knew that thailand had high speed internet in the middle of nowhere.

ACSI Teachers Conference

I love to partner with like minded organizations and this week I got the privilege to partner with ACSI Philippines as they lead a teachers conference for schools in our area.  It was great to worship with them and listen to the speaker challenge these teachers on how they can better integrate God’s word into their class room and give them ideas on how they can be better teachers.  – This is why I do what I do!

The Quick Family is Growing!

First off, we are not pregnant! (Isn’t that an attention grabbing title though!)  Instead we are boarding a Faith student with us over the school year, his name is Bryan.   His family lives far enough away that it takes him about 1.5 hours to travel to school, but since they are still in Manila he does not qualify for boarding.  Bryan is an amazing kid who will graduate high school in 2017 at the age of 16.  This year he is planning on taking 11 or 12 AP tests this spring and about half of them are new subjects that he is learning this year.  He is hoping to go to the London School of Economics next year and eventually lead his family business.  Last year he connected with Jason by volunteering to help out with the spring musical and since then he become fast friends with the Quick family.

Sarah and I see the amazing potential that God has given Bryan and we are excited to share our life and faith with him as he lives in our house over this school year.  The kids love him and he loves to talk with me (jason) over almost any topic, so we are praying and asking God to use us to draw Bryan closer to Himself.  We have no doubt that Bryan will be an influencer  in the future and we are praying that God will use him to change the world.

Jason’s Summer Projects

School down time turns out to be some of Jason’s most critical times of the year.  Over the breaks, Jason gets to work behind the scenes to make sure when school starts again everything is ready to go.  This summer we checked over all rigging system in Cadd theater, cleaned a bunch of lighting fixtures and checked over a number of other systems to make sure everything is still functioning well.  Also over the summer, I also got the chance to update the operating system on the school web server as well as the online store.  It is work that if I do well no one will ever notice but I am proud to carry the responsibility that God has given me.

Also the over the summer months, Jason has been able to partner with our Philippine church to help them through the process of upgrading their sound system.  Jason has been told several times that it is nice to have an insider to help ask and answer questions and help interpret what the various consultants are recommending.  Actually the church took delivery of its equipment last week and now in the process of installing everything, everyone is very exciting.  The church worship team has already asked jason to help mentor the tech team and help train them moving forward.  It is so cool to be able to use your skills for the kingdom!

Jason working at a computer is never a good picture so here is Jason’s Stagecraft class learning how to bring down an unbalanced batten with a bull line!

Sarah’s Summer Day Camp

Over the summer Sarah decided to exercise her teacher muscles by running a day camp for 16 kids.  She and another Faith Teacher along with a few high school & middle students had a great time working with the kids.  Together they ran 5 stations for the kids: science, math, reading, crafts, and games.  Each week Sarah came up with a clever theme for all the activities like balloons and balls, space, beach fun and many other fun ideas.

All in all it was a lot of work for Sarah but she really enjoyed putting her teacher hat on and working with the other ladies to work with the kids. Relieving other mothers for a few hours in the week was one goal Sarah had in doing this summer camp. Each parent was super grateful for the moments of rest, one even napped on the sofa during camp!  Challenging our kids academically over the summer was the cherry on the top for Sarah.

Thanks for Praying and Partnering with us! ~ Quicks

I will follow!!!

At the end of the school year the MS Youth Pastor challenged the middle school students to follow Christ in Baptism.  This year we had over 30 students get baptized.  For us at Faith Academy, baptisms are a celebration of the community alongside the families as we serve.  It is pretty moving to see a father baptize his son and thank God for moving in his family’s life.  I can’t wait to baptize my own kids and I am happy to be a part of the community raising up the next generation of Christ Followers from Faith Academy.

Kingdom Thinking:  Helping students connect their faith with their life on the mission field, means that they will be able to follow God’s leading in other parts of their life.
